What is Exchange?

A Definition

  • Exchange is a collaboration suite. CSU's implementation of Exchange encompasses e-mail, cross-campus scheduling through electronic calendar functionality, contact/directory data, task management as well as a base for future collaboration and messaging functionality such as online chat, video conferencing, electronic white boarding, telephony integration, and more. Exchange provides ubiquitous access to messaging and calendaring features through desktop-based, web-based and mobile device-based computing platforms.
  • Exchange Server is the name of Microsoft's collaboration suite product, providing the back-end infrastructure for messaging, calendar/scheduling, and contact/directory information.

Benefits

  • Exchange helps CSU faculty and staff collaborate more efficiently and effectively via myriad technologies packaged conveniently into a single, flexible system.
  • The central Exchange architecture has been designed and constructed to accomplish three primary goals: performance, reliability and scalability. Several clustered servers coupled with enterprise-class, network-based storage technology provide the framework to accomplish those goals.
