Setting up a Palm Treo Device with Exchange

This information applies to Palm Treo 650 and Palm Treo 700p devices.
  1. On the Treo device, locate "All Applications" and select the "VersaMail" icon (Note, on the Treo 700p, the icon is "Email", not "VersaMail").

  2. If this is the first time VersaMail has been set up on this device, you can skip to step 4, otherwise, select the "Menu" key on the Treo, then select "Accounts" then "Account Setup". The following screen will be displayed:

  3. Select "New".
  4. In the "Account Name:" box, type "CSU Exchange" or another name of your choosing – this will appear in VersaMail to identify this particular e-mail server. In the "Mail Service:" pull-down menu, select "Exchange ActiveSync" then select "Next".

  5. In the "Email Address:" field, type your "first.last" email address (e.g., if your name is John Doe, your address might be: john.doe@colostate.edu). In the "Mail Server:" field, type exactly: mail.colostate.edu then select "Next".

  6. In the "Username:" field, you must type exactly: colostate\ followed by your eID eName (e.g, if your eID eName is "jdoe", then you would type: colostate\jdoe). Select the "Unassigned" box under "Password", then type your eID ePassword in the text box, select "OK" (notice that the Password box shows "Assigned" at this point). Select Next.

  7. VersaMail is now set up to synchronize e-mail and calendar items to the central Exchange server. Select "Done".

  8. Notice the warning below – this indicates that all calendar data on the Treo device will be replaced by data stored in your Exchange calendar.

  9. Select "Yes".
  10. The Treo VersaMail Inbox for your Exchange e-mail account will appear (as in Figure 8), or possibly you will be prompted to select an account as in Figure 9 (in this case, select "CSU Exchange" and then "OK" and you will see the Inbox screen).

  11. Selecting the "Sync" item from the Inbox screen will initiate a synchronization of your e-mail from the Exchange Server.
  12. You may want to peruse the "Options" for VersaMail to customize the sync settings for your Treo device. Select the Menu key, then "Options", then "Preferences".

  13. The Preferences screen has many options:

    • "Display" - modifies settings for how e-mail is displayed on screen
    • "Deletion" - modifies whether you must always confirm deleting messages, and whether auto-empty trash is on or off
    • "Delivery Options" - controls how much of an e-mail message is downloaded, attachments and what timeframe you want to use to sync messages
    • "AutoSync" – controls the cycle of automatic syncing with Exchange should you choose to enable this option
    • "Reply Options" – used to set your full name and your e-mail address (in any case when you type in your e-mail address, use your first.last@colostate.edu address).
    • "Server" - controls whether to delete mail on the Exchange server when deleting from the Palm device.
