Microsoft 365 Apps for CSU Users
If you are a system administrator looking to install Microsoft 365 Apps on CSU-owned computers or in computer labs, please refer to the Device Based Licensing documentation for more information.
Who Is Eligible?
Microsoft 365 Apps are available to individuals with an active Faculty, Staff, or Student CSU NetID. Secondary NetIDs are not eligible for this benefit, and those who retired and/or who have Emeritus status may use the Cloud services/versions of the Office apps, but cannot install the desktop/client versions (see https://csusystem.freshservice.com/support/solutions/articles/23000147985).

Microsoft’s current Microsoft 365 offering includes both desktop applications and cloud services.

How Do I Install Microsoft 365 Apps on My Computer?
- Uninstall any previous versions of Microsoft Office that are no longer needed.
- Navigate to the Microsoft 365 portal at https://portal.office.com.
- Sign in using your CSU account in the format NetID@colostate.edu and your CSU password.
- After signing in, select Install and More (or Install Apps, depending on the portal view).
- Choose Install Microsoft 365 Apps.
- Download and run the installer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
How Do I Install Microsoft 365 Apps on a Mobile Device?
- Open your device's app store.
- Search for the desired Microsoft application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Microsoft 365).
- Verify the application is published by Microsoft Corporation.
- Install the app.
- When prompted, sign in with NetID@colostate.edu and your CSU password.
How Many Installations Am I Allowed?
Eligible CSU users may activate Microsoft 365 Apps on up to:
- Five desktop or laptop computers (Windows or Mac)
- Five tablets
- Five mobile phones
How Can I View My Installed Devices?
Sign in to the Microsoft 365 portal.
Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
Choose View Account or My Account.
Review your registered devices and active installations.
How Long Does My Subscription Last?
You may use Microsoft 365 Apps and services provided through CSU while you maintain an active affiliation with Colorado State University and have an active CSU NetID.
When your eligibility ends, Microsoft 365 Apps may enter reduced functionality mode and access to CSU-provided Microsoft 365 services may be removed.
