Clear the cache of the Teams app (MacOS or Windows)
Occassionaly the Teams Desktop client will suffer performance slow downs,broken update functionality etc. Clearing the Teams cache every so often alleviates performance issues and helps ensure you are running the most up to date client. Follow the steps below to clear the Teams client cache for Windows and MacOS.
Windows Cache
- Sign out and then exit out of the Teams app.
- Press the Windows Key + R, and in the pop-up window, type "%appdata%" and press Enter. Then, Navigate to Microsoft > Teams. Once in the directory, you will need to delete all the files and folders within the following folders:
- Application Cache
- Blob_storage
- Cache
- Databases
- GPUCache
- IndexedDB
- Local Storage
- tmp
Once these steps are complete, restart your computer and your Microsoft Teams cache will have cleared successfully. You will be prompted to sign into Teams using your eID@colostate.edu username and password.
MacOS Cache
- Sign out and then quit the Teams app.
- From Finder: Click Go > Go To Folder, type or copy each of the paths below "~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/xxxx". Once inside each directory, delete the files and folders within. Repeat for all directories listed below.
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Application Cache/Cache
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/blob_storage
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/databases
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/GPUCache
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/IndexedDB
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Local Storage
- ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/tmp
Once these steps are complete, restart Microsoft Teams, the cache will have cleared successfully. You will be prompted to sign into Teams using your eID@colostate.edu username and password.
