Locally Installed "Fat" Clients
The most popular way to connect to Exchange is via an E-Mail Client. These are programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, that are installed on a computer, such as your workstation or home PC.
For Computers located On Campus
Exchange 2007 supports MAPI (Microsoft's messaging interface) connections from Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, and Outlook XP (also known as 2002). ACNS testing shows that Outlook 2000 may be able to provide connectivity; however, it is not supported by Microsoft for use with Exchange 2007, and therefore not supported by ACNS. For Macintosh users, Entourage is included as part of the Microsoft Office suite and is supported by Exchange 2007. Additionally, secure IMAP (IMAPS) connections are supported for those using non-Microsoft clients such as Mozilla Thunderbird and Eudora.
Note that Outlook 2003 users will need to make a configuration change to connect to Central Exchange after July, 2010. More information about this change can be found here.
